Casa Rastia > Borgo Rastia
Borgo Rastia lies on the hillside of S. Vicino mountain, in the county of Matelica (MC) in Le Marche region (central Italy).
Matelica was destroyed in 552 AD during the decisive battle that saw the victory of Narsete and the death of Totila, head of the Goths. The people from Matelica took shelter in the surrounding mountains where several small villages, like Borgo Rastia, were founded. A wooden crucifix dating back to the XV century, still preserved in the Church of S.Michele Arcangelo del Borgo, is of remarkable historic and artistic interest and is considered to be miraculous. In the XII century the earl Ottoni finally improved the fortune of Matelica. The ancient and mysterious Ottoni Fortress is at walking distance from Borgo Rastia.
